Patient Protocols during the Coronavirus pandemic

Message from Practice Principal David Lyons

We hope you and your family are in good health.  We have all been through a lot over the last few months, and all of us are looking forward to resuming our normal habits and routines.  While many things have changed, one thing has remained the same: our commitment to your safety.

Infection control has always been a top priority for our practice and you may have seen this during your visits to the practice.  Our infection control processes are made so that when you receive care, it is both safe and comfortable.  We want to tell you about the infection control procedures we follow in our practice to keep patients and staff safe.

Our practice follows infection control recommendations made by the British Dental Association, NHS England and other relevant authorities.  We follow the activities of these organisations so that we are up to date on any new rulings or guidance that may be issued.  We do this to make sure that our infection control procedures are current and adhere to regulations.

How your next visit to our practice will work

You may see some changes when it is time for your next appointment.  We made these changes to help protect our patients and staff.  For example:

  • Our practice will communicate with you beforehand to ask some screening questions.  You’ll be asked those same questions again when you arrive at the practice.
  • On arrival, we will take your temperature and may provide you with a mask to wear in the practice.
  • We have hand sanitiser that we will ask you to use when you enter the building.  You will also find some in the reception area and other places around the practice for you to use as needed.
  • You may see that our waiting room will no longer offer magazines, children’s toys and so forth, since those items are difficult to clean and disinfect.
  • Appointments will be managed to allow for social distancing between patients.  That might mean that you’re offered fewer options for scheduling your appointment.
  • We will be allowing greater time between patients to reduce waiting times for you, as well as to reduce the number of patients in the reception area at any one time.

How your next visit to our practice will work:

You will need to arrange an appointment over the telephone

We will ask you a set of screening questions.  To ensure an effective triage system a member of staff may need to call you back.

We will explain in more detail how your appointment will operate and you may be asked to look at our website for further details.

You will be asked to enter the practice alone if at all possible and to leave all unnecessary belongings at home.

We will take a deposit payment over the telephone.

On arrival: 

Please stay in your car.  Phone the practice to inform us of your arrival (or ring the door bell and remain outside if you don’t have a mobile phone).  You will be asked the same screening questions again.  We are adhering to social distancing guidelines as far as we possibly can.

A member of staff will come out to greet you: 

The staff member will be wearing PPE, such as a mask, gloves, visor and apron.

Your temperature will be taken using a contactless thermometer, before entering the building.

You will be asked to enter the hallway of the practice where you will be required to use alcohol hand sanitiser.

You may be given a face mask to wear whilst you are walking through the practice and talking to the surgery staff.  You will be given a plastic bag to put the mask into when you are ready to commence treatment.

Your staff escort will guide you to the surgery.

Our surgery staff will be ready to see you as soon as possible and will be wearing PPE. Please be aware that in order for treatment to proceed we are not able to adhere to the social distancing recommendations.

After treatment you will be asked to replace your face mask.

The member of staff acting as your escort will be called.

You will be guided back to the hallway where you will be able to remove and dispose of your face mask and use hand sanitiser again.

You will usually exit the practice without stopping at the reception desk.

You can contact us from home to ask any questions, to make further appointments or to make further payment.
