The Practice Manager from Woodcock Lane Dental Care is hoping that her hard work and training will pay off on 22nd April when she runs the London Marathon.
Liz Workman, a member of the Cotswold All Runners, is running the marathon in memory of her mother who had Alzheimer’s. All the money Liz is raising is going towards supporting the Alzheimer’s Society in their fight against dementia. Although Liz has completed several half-marathons, including Stroud, this is the first time she has attempted the London Marathon.
Liz, who grew up in Nailsworth, would like to thank her colleagues and all the generous patients who have sponsored her and supported her or donated through the justgiving.com website. If anyone else would like to support Liz and this worthwhile cause please either log onto www.justgiving.com/lizworkman or call into Woodcock Lane Dental Care in Stonehouse.
Did you stop smoking on No Smoking Day? If you did, WELL DONE. You’ll soon start to see and feel the benefits – healthwise and financial wise. If you didn’t manage to quit – don’t give up, try again; it really is worth it.
Having worked at Woodcock Lane Dental Care (formerly known as Woodcock Lane Dental Practice) for well over 20 years it has been an amazing privilege to watch children grow up, start their own families and bring their children along to see us for their dental care. It always bring a smile to my face watching a child select a prize (as a reward of our star system for good toothbrushing) and hearing the mum or dad whisper that they can remember choosing prizes when they were little. read more…
The Inman Aligner has become a well used method for aligning front teeth which are mild to moderately rotated, crooked, out of line or stick out or in. It is at least as fast at producing good quality results for adults and children for whom it is suitable as other types of tooth aligner. Its main advantage over other methods of aligning front teeth is that it is removable and does not need to be worn full time, only for about 20 hours per day. read more…
How much water does it take to brush your teeth?
Good question.
There are two types of person when it comes to brushing teeth;
those who wet the brush 1st and those who wet it after applying the toothpaste. Do those who wet the brush 1st, then turn off the tap, while those who wet the brush after applying the paste keep the tap running? Well who knows? Personally I wet the brush first, so that the toothpaste in the tube doesn’t get wet too, but I always turn the tap off while brushing, to preserve water. After all, in the 2 minutes we should all be brushing for, (or longer if you wear a brace or have gum disease) an awful lot of water goes down the drain if the tap is left on.
Remember the flood of 2007 and the water shortage which followed in much of Gloucestershire, including Gloucester and Cheltenham? With no water for over two weeks and having a family with 3 children in it, we certainly became acutely aware of how we take water supply for granted, so let’s remember to turn the tap off when brushing, especially with an imminent water shortage, apparently.
Happy toothbrushing!
With Spring just around the corner most of us feel much more motivated, so now is a good time to spring-clean your oral hygiene routine.
At Woodcock Lane Dental Care we have carefully selected a range of top quality, well-known brand toothbrushes, designed to meet everyone’s individual needs. All our “manual” toothbrushes are available at the very reasonable price of only £1.95. We can even provide advice to help you choose from our selection.
We’ve known for a few years now that good oral hygiene not only helps prevent gum disease and dental decay but also helps to prevent inflammatory heart disease. Now the latest research is indicating that bacteria originating from the mouth can be the cause of a type of bacterial meningitis!
The article was written following research by Dr Andrea Zbinden, published in the Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology.
Even more reason to keep your gums and teeth in good health through good home care and regular dentist and hygienist visits.
Happy brushing and flossing (and don’t forget your Tepe brushes too).
Straight white teeth is the aim for many people. Thankfully there are now many options available to obtain a perfect smile, but without having to cut teeth down in the process.
Many people have seen the “Ten Years Younger” type of program, where a row of white tombstone-like teeth is quickly created, usually at the expense of excessive amounts of tooth enamel being removed, all to create a quick fix for the short term. Most of this type of expensive and destructive dental cosmetic treatment will mean a future lifetime of further invasive treatments to maintain the damaged teeth. Is there an alternative?
Over the 22 years we’ve been providing the children and adults of Gloucestershire, especially those living in the Five Valleys area, with new smiles. But there have been quite a few changes!
Originally we used to use plastic and metal removable braces to treat crocked teeth, but these were replaced over the years with the fixed-on metal braces, giving much better control and far better end results.
Unfortunately these were quite obtrusive, so it was great to see the introduction of the small mini bracket systems in the 1990s, making these braces far less conspicuous.
