Mouth Cancer Check

November – Oral Health Foundation’s Mouth Cancer Action Month

The Oral Health Foundation aims, this month, to make us all “mouthaware”.  They have produced this, really easy to follow, video of how you can check your mouth, at home, for any signs of mouth cancer:

Mouth cancer check guide

All our dentists routinely check our patients for oral (mouth) cancer, at every check-up.  These are the most common signs:

  • A mouth ulcer that does not heal within 3 weeks.
  • A white or red patch in the mouth.
  • Any unusual lumps in your mouth or jaw area and any persistent hoarseness.

If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.  Through out November, we are offering a free oral cancer check to everyone, so even if you are not normally one of our patients we are happy to arrange a short appointment for you, free-of-charge, with one of our dentists, for your peace of mind.

The risk factors for oral cancer are: smoking/tobacco, alcohol, history of cancer, sunlight/sunbeds, HPV, genetics and an unhealthy diet.
