During an intensive two day course in Cardiff, organised by Professor Stephen Richmond, of Cardiff University Dental School, David Lyons was calibrated to the internationally recognised level, in the use of the Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need and the Peer Assessment Rating index.<\/p>\n
The IOTN index is the nationally accepted rating system to enable orthodontists to assess a patient’s clinical need for orthodontic treatment. It is the index used by the NHS in England & Wales to decide who receives tooth straightening<\/a> on the NHS and who has to pay for their orthodontic treatment. Being able to accurately determine who qualifies and who does not qualify for free NHS orthodontics is therefore an absolute must for orthodontic practitioners.<\/p>\n The PAR index allows the results of an orthodontic practitioner’s work to be objectively assessed and scored.
